The obvious challenge in photographing sculptures is representing a three-dimensional object using a two-dimensional medium. While this challenge can only be partially overcome, I start by moving around the sculpture, observing it, and noting the emotions it evokes. I then collaborate with the artist to select perspectives that best convey the artistic essence of the original work. The focus then shifts to lighting—choosing the type of light (soft or hard), determining the amount of light, adjusting the angle, and managing shadows. To achieve a natural feel and capture all details, I often use multiple exposures. This approach ensures that every feature, texture, reflection, and color is emphasized, preserving the sculpture’s volume and material integrity. Ready to give it a try?
